Marmore waterfall, 2nd highest in Europe with 541 ft of height, has been artificially created by the Romansin 3rd century b.C. to solve the problem of floods in the upper valley. They made the Velino river jump down into the Nera river flowing in the lower valley, thus creating this incredible waterfall. Nowadays the area is a Naturalistic Parkwhich features pathways and trails along the slope of the mountain allowing incredible views over the waterfall.
Piediluco lake, located a few miles from the waterfall, is nestled amidst green hills and offers a mild and fresh climate in hot summertime. A pleasant ferry mini-cruiseacross the lake allows picturesque views over the area. A tiny fishermen village is set along the lake.
