Finally carnival: Mardi Gras!

The funniest party of the year animated by streamers, confetti, sweets and especially masks!

Already in ancient Rome during the Saturnals, there was a tradition among slaves and masters, to exchange roles masquerading and celebrating freely with food, wine and dancing.

The name Carnival probably derives from the term "levare la carne", linked to the religious tradition that refers to the last banquet before the beginning of Lent, a period of fasting. However, it is not excluded that the origin is linked to the Latin term "carnualia" - country games - or "carrus navalis" - literally ship on wheels that refers to carnival floats.

Among the carnival traditions there are the simple and delicious sweets that change their name according to the region: chatter, frappe, castagnole...

Confetti, which in the Renaissance were the real seeds of frosted coriander, are now launched as a sign of triumph and participation.

Masks are an opportunity for transformation for young and old who are looking for heroes, cinema, ironic characters, original disguises or the ancient Italian theatrical tradition: here then is the Neapolitan Pulcinella, the Bergamasco Arlecchino.

In Italy some of the oldest and most famous Carnival in Venice, celebrated since 1296. We should also remember that of Fano, celebrated since 1347, the famous Ambrosian Carnival in Milan, of Putignano, celebrated since December 26, that of Viareggio with its majestic floats and that of Ivrea in which an unusual battle of oranges rages.
