In Campo Imperatore Plateau, the "Little Tibet of Italy" beloved by hiking and cross-country skiing enthusiasts, where Castel del Monte captivates visitors with its surrounding landscapes and intricate narrow streets, a few kilometers away lies a medieval gem of Abruzzo: Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Calascio, with its characteristic tower houses, is dominated by the marvelous Rocca, considered by National Geographic as one of the 15 most beautiful castles in the world. Nearby, you can also explore the municipalities of Barisciano, Carapelle Calvisio, and Castelvecchio Calvisio.

1st Day: Arrival in Santo Stefano di Sessanio
Individual arrival in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Meeting with the guide and briefing. The afternoon will be spent exploring the historic village (2 hours).

2nd Day: The Ring of Lakes at Refuge Racollo
We will transfer to the Racollo refuge. After buying cheese from the shepherd for a planned PIC-NIC lunch break, we will embark on our trekking/nature adventure in the Gran Sasso National Park. The trail will lead us to visit the three lakes: Racollo, Bassaneta, and Barisciano, with marvelous views towards Gran Sasso. Along the way, we will encounter the ruins of the monastery of Santa Maria del Monte. The return to the refuge will allow for a break. Return, overnight stay, and dinner. (8 km)

3rd Day: Rocca Calascio, The Castle of Ladyhawke
Starting from Santo Stefano di Sessanio, we will walk towards Campo Imperatore. Through a plateau and then uphill in a valley (Val Pareta), we will reach a mid-level road. From there, we will ascend to the Renaissance oratory of Madonna dei Monti and the fortress of Rocca Calascio, through Monte delle Croci. Known for being featured in numerous films including Ladyhawke and The Name of the Rose, Rocca Calascio will enchant us with its beauty. We will descend to the village of Calascio for a break before returning to Santo Stefano for departure. (8 km)
