Travel Program
Day 1
Meeting around 9:00 AM in Sante Marie. After collecting the official pilgrim passport, we will have a short briefing to introduce the experience ahead. We immediately set off on the first stage of the Cammino dei Briganti, passing through the villages of Santo Stefano and Valdeivarri, heading toward the ridge of Monte Val di Varri and crossing the former borders between the Papal States and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Along this trekking route through chestnut, oak, and beech woods, ancient cultivated fields, and pathways once used by brigands and merchants, we will be welcomed in local accommodations or private homes, where we will taste homegrown products from vegetable gardens and farms while listening to stories and traditions told by those who have lived here all their lives. Arrival in Nesce, where local families will cook a farm-to-table dinner for us. For those wishing to arrive the evening before, overnight accommodation in Sante Marie is available upon request in guesthouses or hostels.

Day 2
Our guided group trek begins by crossing the picturesque Salto Valley, an area rich in history and nature. The trail winds through lush greenery, surrounded by majestic mountains and thriving forests, offering breathtaking views over valleys and crystal-clear streams. After a few hours of walking, we'll reach the charming village of Villerose, an ancient hamlet where we can stop for a short break and enjoy the authentic mountain atmosphere. In the afternoon, we enter the Duchessa Nature Reserve, a true natural gem of the Apennines. This protected area hosts extraordinary biodiversity: dense beech and oak forests inhabited by deer and Apennine wolves, and rocky peaks patrolled by majestic golden eagles. Finally, our trek takes us to the village of Torano, another hidden treasure nestled among the mountains.

Day 3
With our legs now well warmed up, today awaits a more demanding stage which, if taken calmly and with curiosity, will amaze us both for its beauty and for what we'll discover. From the village of Cartore (reach it by transfer), we head toward Lake Duchessa, one of the highest lakes in the Apennines, surrounded by the Morrone and Murolungo mountains. From here, we can enjoy a special view of Monte Velino, spot the griffon vultures nesting nearby, and listen to the stories of Americo the shepherd, one of the most authentic souls of this land. Descending into the valley through forested paths to Passo le Forche, we continue towards Santa Maria in Valle Porclaneta, where we'll visit the 10th-century Romanesque church. This is certainly the most challenging but also the most thrilling stage, ending in the beautiful village of Rosciolo dei Marsi.

Day 4
We continue along the Cammino dei Briganti, one of Italy's lesser-known walking routes-authentic and unmissable precisely for that reason. From Rosciolo, we cross stunning landscapes until we reach the archaeological site of Alba Fucens, an ancient Roman city at the foot of Monte Velino. Here, we visit its perfectly preserved amphitheater, offering spectacular views of the Sirente-Velino range. We descend through Magliano dei Marsi and reach Scurcola Marsicana, a medieval village rich in history. After a day blending nature and culture, we enjoy a dinner with organic, locally sourced products and stay overnight in a cozy B&B, experiencing true local hospitality and the spirit of the Cammino.

Day 5
Walking through woods and small villages, we head back toward Sante Marie along an easy and scenic stage. A final stretch to admire the Marsica area and Monte Velino, reflecting on all the beauty experienced during this fascinating itinerary. We conclude our group trekking journey between Abruzzo and Lazio in Sante Marie, where this incredible walking experience comes to an end. An adventure filled with nature, history, and local traditions-with the convenience of included luggage transport to fully enjoy each stage. End of tour around 3:00 PM.
