Description
From the south side of the Alps you will head towards the heart of South Tyrol through Bressanone, the capital cultural of Tyrol, the multicultural Bolzano, and the spa town of Merano. The typical products of the area as well as the panorama and the local wines that you can enjoy on this trip will make you live an unforgettable experience. In the first part of the tour you will walk along the „Keschtnweg - chestnut road", which offers panoramic views towards the Dolomites. Vineyards and orchards dot this route, one of the most beautiful routes in South Tyrol. You will then continue towards Lake Caldaro, the most famous lake in South Tyrol which has always had a strong attraction for all trekking lovers. Cities, castles and residences enrich the South Tyrolean landscape and the wine route, between Bolzano and Merano, where you will find the best wineries in the area. On the trail of Empress Sissi you will finally continue towards the neighboring city of Merano.
The route takes place on marked paths, through woods and meadows. The Dolomites always remain in the background and you walk on easy paths without particular technical difficulties. Some stages can also be shortened by public transport. Suitable for children from 12 years.
1° DAY: Arrival in Bressanone
Individual arrival in Bressanone.
2° DAY: Bressanone \" Closed; approx. difference in altitude + 580 m/ - 620 m; approx. 5 hours
From Bressanone you will start walking in the direction of Monte Ponente. Proceeding towards the plateau you will cross small villages and farms while towards the south you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Dolomite peaks. You will soon reach Feldthurns and the monastery of Sabiona, „the Acropolis of Tyrol", which offers unmissable views towards Chiusa, the city of Durer.
3° DAY: Closed \" Renon \" Bolzano; approx. difference in altitude + 670 m/ - 280 m; approx. 5-6 hours
After a small bus transfer to Barbiano/Saubach you will walk towards the Renon plateau which overlooks the Isarco Valley, the Dolomites and the Scillar. Here, you can admire the famous ancient earth pyramids of Renon. In the afternoon you will continue with the Renon cable car from Soprabolzano to Bolzano, where you can enjoy the evening in this city with a multicultural atmosphere: Italian, German and South Tyrolean culture mix here in every aspect of daily life. Alternatively, possibility of shortening the route from Collalbo to Soprabolzano with the Renon cable car.
Today a walking stop awaits you through sunny South Tyrol. You will walk in the area surrounding the famous Lake Caldaro, the best-known lake in South Tyrol. Through vineyards, villages, castles, residences, churches and farms you will understand why this is considered a unique panorama. A visit to the wine museum in Caldaro is certainly a recommended break to have an insight into South Tyrolean history. The uphill difference in altitude of this stage can be reduced by traveling along a bus section towards Lake Caldaro. Return to Bolzano by public bus.
After breakfast train to Lana (ticket included). Just beyond the town begins the walk along the famous Marlengo canal path, the longest path in Alto Adige that runs alongside an irrigation canal. Water paths, called "Waale" were created hundreds of years ago to convey water and dry land. Today, there are many trails along these „Waale" for both trekking and quiet walking. You will arrive under the Tirolo castle and then continue along the Tappeiner path towards Merano, a city also loved by Empress Sissi for its mild climate. End the day with a walk under the centuries-old arcades or in the city's magnificent parks.
6° DAY: Merano, departure.
