The itinerary is developed mainly along old military and forestry roads among the majestic Dolomites, so as to allow you to enjoy the incredible natural scenery of these heritage peaks every day Unesco World Cup.
The route partially follows the official one of the „MTB - Marathons", an event held every year in July. The landscape of the Dolomites will be your travel companion on this itinerary between the natural parks of „Fanes-Sennes-Braies", the "Dolomites d'Ampezzo" and the "Sesto Dolomites", the natural habitat of many species of plants and animals.
The route follows old forest and military roads and wide mountain trails. The tour is suitable for cyclists with good training. For each stage you can choose between the sports variant and the simple variant. The simple variant is designed to be used with the e-Bike.
1° DAY: Individual arrival in Alta Pusteria (Villabassa/Dobbiaco) Arrival in Alta Pusteria. Possibility of free unattended parking near the hotel.
2° DAY: Villabassa/Dobbiaco \" Malga San Silvestro - Markinkele \" Villabassa/Dobbiaco (approx. 45 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,475 m)/(approx. 22 km, difference in altitude approx. 700 m)
From Villabassa/Dobbiaco you start by taking an asphalt road to the small church of San Silvestro - Silversterkirchlein; from here via a military road you will arrive at Markinkele, also called „Border Cornet". After a short break in the renovated Markinkelerhütte refuge, return to Villabassa/Dobbiaco. The simple variant takes you to Malga San Silvestro, which invites you to take a break to cool off.
3° DAY: Villabassa/Dobbiaco \" Plan de Corones \" San Vigilio (approx. 55 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,490 m)/(approx. 45 km, difference in altitude approx. 220 m)
Today's stage winds along the Val Pusteria cycle path and on a long climb up to Plan de Corones (2,275 m), a popular destination for families, hikers, cyclists and enthusiasts in summer. On the top of the mountain is the Peace Bell „Concordia 2000" and the Messner Mountain Museum Corones. Particularly experienced mountain bikers can descend into the valley on the various downhill and freeride routes. Arriving at Plan de Corones you have overcome the last tiring obstacle and you can finally cycle up to San Vigilio. For the simple variant, take the chairlift to Plan de Corones (ticket not included).
4° DAY: San Vigilio \" Seine/Fodara Vedla or Rifugio Fanes \" Ra Stua \" Cortina (approx. 40 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,200 m)/(approx. 35 km, difference in altitude approx. 950 m)
From San Vigilio you cycle to Pederü and, via a military road, you reach the Fodara Vedla refuge and from there the Senna refuge, which offers a wide panorama of some of the most beautiful peaks in the Dolomites: Hohe Gaisl (3,146m), Cristallo (3,221m), Sorapis (3,205m) and Tofane (3,243m). Through meadows and mountain pine forests, continue by bicycle through the Dolomites, which in 2009 were included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. After passing Malga Fanes and crossing the Fanes Valley, you reach the Olympic city of Cortina (1,211m). Cortina has been home to numerous major international events, including the 1956 Winter Olympics. Even today the city hosts World Cup competitions in various winter sports. In the simple variant you reach Cortina d ?Ampezzo passing through the Sennes refuge.
5° DAY: Cortina - Rifugio 5 Torri - Cortina (approx. 55 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,800 m)/(approx. 35 km, difference in altitude approx. 900 m)
Today takes you on a short panoramic tour of the Ampezzo Dolomites. From Cortina you go up to Col Rosa and then to Rifugio Cinque Torri. On your right you can admire the Five Towers (2,361 m), made up of five steep towers that once formed a large boulder. In front of you stands one of the 3 highest peaks in the Dolomites, Monte Pelmo (3,168 m). With its immense size, it was one of the first large peaks in the Dolomites to be climbed by man. Then we return to Cortina. In the simple variant take the Col Drusciè cable car from Cortina. You can shorten the climb to the Cinque Torri with the chairlift (tickets not included).
6° DAY: Cortina d'Ampezzo \" Cimabanche -Prato Piazza - Villabassa/Dobbiaco (approx. 45 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,010 m)/(Monte Specie variant: approx. 51 km, difference in altitude approx. 1,300 m)
Today takes you all the way to Cimabanche and finally to the famous Prato Piazza plateau, above which majestic Dürrenstein and Hohe Gaisl stand out. In addition to nature and tranquility, here you can enjoy a breathtaking view: in the distance you can see Monte Cristallo, Tofana and the famous Tre Cime. You start by following the cycle path up to the provincial border and then the old military road up to Prato Piazza. After a break, you can cycle from the Dürrenstein refuge to Monte Specie and enjoy the view of the famous Three Peaks and the Höhlenstein valley. At the end of the day you cycle to Niederdorf/Toblach.
7° DAY: Alta Pusteria (Villabassa/Dobbiaco)
