The itinerary starts in the city of Bressanone, in Tyrol. Surrounded by centuries-old buildings, you will walk along numerous historical paths through the former episcopal city. The journey first leads you through the charming mountain homes of the locals in the Villnöss Valley, with its imposing peaks, and then takes you into the heart of the Dolomites. Val Gardena, also called Gherdeina, is a Ladin-speaking area well known for its mighty mountain landscapes and traditional woodcarving.
DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1: Arrival in Bressanone
Individual arrival at your hotel in Bressanone, where you can stroll under the city arcades and admire the cathedral district and the bishop's castle.
DAY 2: Bressanone \" Plose \" Funes

Begin your hike comfortably with the cable car taking you up Mount Plose, near Bressanone. When you reach the station at 2,050 m, a breathtaking panorama unfolds, with the Dolomites showing their most beautiful side. Here you can visit the picturesque church of Ranui, surrounded by green meadows.
DAY 3: Funes \" Val Gardena

Starting from the village of Santa Maddalena, the hike leads you up to the Broglessattel. From here you can enjoy the unique view of the Geisler mountains in the Funes Valley, dominated by the main peak, the Sass Rigais (3,025 m). This mountain group, part of the Puez\"Odle Nature Park, separates the Funes Valley from Val Gardena. The tour continues into the side valley of Val d'Isarco, 25 km long, including the towns of Ortisei, S. Cristina, and Selva Gardena. Option to shorten the route with the Raschötz funicular (ticket not included).
DAY 4: Val Gardena \" Seceda \" Val Gardena

A bus takes you to S. Cristina. On the sunny side of Val Gardena lies the Seceda alpine pasture. Located within the Puez\"Odle Nature Park and part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers an incomparable panorama not only of numerous Dolomite peaks but also of renowned mountains such as the Ortles and the Großglockner. The side view of the majestic Geisler peaks from Seceda is one of the most popular photo motifs in the Dolomites. Option to shorten the descent with the Seceda cable car (ticket not included).
DAY 5: Val Gardena \" Selva \" Val Gardena

A bus takes you to Selva di Val Gardena. Today you will explore Val Gardena on foot. From Selva, you easily reach Plan de Gralba and the Tiejasattel, continuing to the Piz Sela. Enjoy the panorama of the mighty Sassolungo walls and the impressive Sella massif. The hike continues downhill to S. Cristina, home to the world's largest hand-carved nativity scene, created by a group of 18 sculptors. On the shorter variant, you can avoid the ascent entirely by taking the Campionoi gondola (ticket not included). Option to shorten the stage with a bus from S. Cristina (ticket not included).
DAY 6: Val Gardena \" Alpe di Siusi \" Val Gardena

The day begins with a cable car ride to the Alpe di Siusi, one of the largest alpine pastures in the world, covering a legendary 56 square kilometres. Breathtaking views of the nearby Dolomite peaks-Sassolungo, Langkofel, Plattkofel, and the Sciliar-characterise today's hike. On this plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, approximately 790 different plant species have been recorded. Return to Val Gardena again by cable car.
DAY 7: Val Gardena \" Chiusa \" Bressanone

In the past, mail was transported from Chiusa to Val Gardena along the Postal Route (in Ladin: Troi da la Posta). Today, this ancient path serves as a scenic hiking route through Val Gardena. It first leads along the sunny slope of the Pontives gorge and through a spruce forest to the picturesque village of San Pietro. Take one last look at the pale Dolomite mountains of Val Gardena. Descending gently across soft meadows, you reach the town of Chiusa with its impressive Säben Monastery. From here, you take the train back to Bressanone. Option to shorten the stage with a bus from Lajen to Chiusa (ticket not included).
DAY 8: Bressanone, departure
