This excursion begins in the town of Bressanone, in Tyrol. Surrounded by centuries-old buildings, you will walk along numerous historical traces through the former episcopal city. The journey will take you first through the charming mountain houses of the locals, into the Villnöss Valley with its imposing peaks, and then into the heart of the Dolomites. Val Gardena, also known as Gherdeina, is a Ladin-speaking area, well-known for its impressive mountain landscapes and traditional wood carving.
1st Day: Bressanone Individual arrival at the hotel in Bressanone, where you can stroll through the city's arcades, admiring the cathedral district and the episcopal castle.
2nd Day: Bressanone - Plose - Funes (Elevation gain approx. +350 m, -500 m / 3.5-4 hours approx. - Variant: elevation gain approx. +460 m, -1,350 m / 5.5-6.5 hours approx.) Start your excursion comfortably with the cable car to the top of Mount Plose in Bressanone. Arriving at the station at 2,050 m altitude, a breathtaking panorama of the Dolomites will unfold before you. For the challenging variant, continue on the Kuratensteig trail to the quiet village of Funes. Here, you can visit the picturesque church of Ranui, surrounded by green meadows.
3rd Day: Funes - Val Gardena (Elevation gain approx. +875 m, -960 m / 5.5 hours approx. - Variant: elevation gain approx. +875 m, -200 m / 4 hours approx.) Starting from the village of Santa Maddalena, the hike will take you up to Broglessattel. Here, you can enjoy a unique view of the Geisler mountains in the Val di Funes, with the main peak, Sass Rigais (3,025 m). The mountain group, part of the Puez-Odle Nature Park, separates the Val di Funes from Val Gardena. The tour will continue in the lateral valley of the Val d'Isarco, 25 km long, with the municipalities of Ortisei, S. Cristina, and Selva Gardena. Possibility to shorten the route with the Raschötz funicular (ticket not included).
4th Day: Val Gardena - Seceda - Val Gardena (Elevation gain approx. +670-1,030 m, -1,230 m / approx. 6.5-7.5 hours - Variant: elevation gain approx. +630 m, -730 m / 4 hours approx.) By bus, you will arrive in S. Cristina. In Val Gardena, on the sunny side of the valley, is the Seceda mountain pasture. Inserted in the Puez-Odle Nature Park and part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage of the Dolomites, it offers an incomparable panorama not only of numerous Dolomite peaks but also of renowned mountains such as Ortles or Großglockner. The side view of the majestic peaks of the Geisler group from Seceda is one of the most popular photographic motives in the Dolomites. Possibility to shorten the route downhill with the Seceda cable car.
5th Day: Val Gardena - Selva - Val Gardena (Elevation gain approx. +600 m, -900 m / approx. 5-6 hours.) By bus to Selva di Val Gardena. Today you will explore Val Gardena on foot. From Selva, you easily reach Plan de Gralba and Tiejasattel to Piz Sela. Enjoy the panorama of the mighty walls of Sassolungo and the impressive massif of Sella. The hike will continue down to S. Cristina, where you can find the world's largest hand-carved nativity scene, created by a group of 18 sculptors. Possibility to shorten the route with the bus from S. Cristina (ticket not included).
6th Day: Val Gardena - Alpe di Siusi - Val Gardena (Elevation gain approx. +/- 640 m / approx. 5.5-6.5 hours - Variant: elevation gain approx. +510 m, -510 m / approx. 3.5 hours.) The day starts with a cable car ride to Alpe di Siusi, one of the world's largest alpine meadows, with its legendary 56 square kilometers. Breathtaking views of the nearby Dolomite peaks of Sassolungo, Langkofel, Plattkofel, and Sciliar characterize today's excursion. On the UNESCO World Heritage plateau, about 790 different plant species have been added. The return journey to Val Gardena is again by cable car.
7th Day: Val Gardena - Chiusa - Bressanone (Elevation gain approx. +370, -1,080 m / approx. 5-6 hours - Variant: elevation gain approx. +370 m, -500 m / approx. 4 hours.) In the past, mail was transported from Chiusa to Val Gardena via the Post Trail (in Ladin: Troi da la Posta). Today, the ancient path serves as a panoramic route through Val Gardena. First, it leads to the sunny slope of Chiusa di Pontives and, through a spruce forest, to the picturesque village of San Pietro. A final look at the pale mountains of the Gardena Dolomites. Descending gently through gentle slopes, you will reach the town of Chiusa with the imposing Säben Monastery. From here, you will take the train back to Bressanone. Possibility to shorten the stage with the bus from Lajen to Chiusa (ticket not included).
8th Day: Individual departure or possibility to extend the stay.
