Half day there will be an excursion in the park of the Marmore waterfall, an itinerary between nature and history, on the paths that take place around the jumps of the waterfall where the power of water, the beauty of nature and the ingenuity of man they combine in one wonderful landscape.
The Cascata delle Marmore, praised over the centuries for its beauty, appears as a pouring column of water distributed over three jumps. By wrapping the flora in a cloud of white foam, it covers a difference in altitude of 165 meters.
The scenario revealed to the visitor is the result of over two thousand years of work by the man who, starting from the Roman age, tried to channel the waters of the Velino river to make them fall into the underlying Nera river. Its history began in 271 BC, when Consul Curio Dentato undertook a reclamation work on the Rieti plain by creating a canal of over two kilometers up to the edge of the Marmore cliff. The vegetation, with its species of considerable value, strikes the attention of those who venture into the hiking area, the beating heart of the area.
In the other half day we offer an easy excursion through the woods of the Polino mountain locality that reaches the altitude of about 1600 meters above sea level rich in Mediterranean vegetation, and history.
The Polino-Colle Bertone area is located in the extreme south-east of the province of Terni.
The morphology of the place is typically mountain, with ridges and valleys characterized by pronounced river engravings.
In the southern sector, Monte La Pelosa (1635 m s.l.m.) and Monte Torrinara (1308m s.l.m.), Monte Coscerno and Monte Aspra are aligned in the NORTH / EAST-SOUTH / WEST direction.
In the NORTH / EAST sector between Colle Bertone and Salto del Cieco, the morphology becomes that of a plateau located at an average altitude of 1200m. s.l.m. consisting of mild reliefs.
From a geological point of view, the territory is characterized by the presence of limestone rocks of marine origin, mainly sedimented in an open and deep sea environment.
These lithologies are from the Triassic age (240 million years) to the Miocene (5.2 million years) and consist of limestones, marly limestones, and marls (limestone + clay), well layered and rich in fossils.
