A magnificent excursion that will take you to the central crater of Etna, on the roof of Sicily. Starting from the Silvestri Mountains you will cross the craters Barbagallo, before reaching the summit of the highest active volcano of the entire European continent at 3340 Mt.
It's there that you can hear the breath of the volcano, among the fumaroles of gas emissions. You will walk through the desert of lava, with a breathtaking view of the Aeolian Islands and Stromboli, with the Calabrian coasts that stand out in the background.
The departure is from your hotel in Taormina or Giardini Naxos, around 7:30, to reach the Rifugio Sapienza, from where you will take the Etna cable car. Climb up to 2,500 metres, then take the Unimong jeep to reach the base of the southeast crater. This is the starting point of the hike to the central crater of Etna. In two hours you reach 3340 meters. The descent takes about three hours, through the majestic Valle del Bove, Piano del Lago and Cisternazza, two icons of the summit landscape of Etna.
