We will walk in the majestic ancient beech forest of the Umbra Forest, immersed in vegetation consisting largely of centuries-old beech trees. We will start from the Umbra lake to head towards an ancient barracks in the center of the forest, once useful for controlling human activities in these places. Crossing karst sinkholes and admiring thousand-year-old yew trees, we will return to the meeting point with a circular route.
The Umbra Forest is the green nucleus of the Gargano Park, a UNESCO site for its beech forests left over from the last ice age and a place with an incredible rate of biodiversity thanks to the pedo-climatic conditions which make it almost a Northern European forest transplanted onto the Mediterranean and, for this reason, a popular destination for all nature and botany enthusiasts.
The route is mostly flat and also suitable for children.
