The path from Florence to Siena is called Via Romea Chianti because, through via Francigena , which allows you to arrive to Rome and because it gets through one of the most beautiful and famous areas of Tuscany, Chianti, that's famous for its wine production.
From Ponte Vecchio, the heart of Florence, get out of the city through Porta Romana, reach Certosa di Firenze. Then, through asphalt roads that's not so busy and wooded paths get to Chiesa Nuova, that's famous for its crushed.
Even for roads and paths, in total security, get to Sant'Andrea in Percussina where you can visit the exiled Machiavelli house in 1513 in the town after the return of the Medici in Florence. So you can reach San Casciano in Val di Pesa, the first stop of the journey. Here you can eat in a great accommodation and enjoy the typical Tuscan cuisine.
The second stop is San Donato which you can reach by choosing between two paths: falling Torrente Pesa, where a track along its course will take us to the foot of the mountain San Donato,and then passing from the Roman Bridge of Sambuca, or among Badia vallombrosana of Passignano hills and valleys' and among woods and vineyards get anyway to San Donato with breathtaking landscapes (in this case the distance is about 2.5 km longer).
From San Donato you are reaching Castellina in Chianti where the beautiful nature will reward our efforts. From Castellina to Siena we can find a wonderful landscapes of Chianti, with beautiful farms and cozy farmhouses.
From Castellina in Chianti get to Siena. During the entire route there are testimonies of the passage of pilgrims through the existence of ancient shelters.
