Full description of the route

Day 1
Arrival in Lucca and check-in at the hotel. Enjoy a tour of the city, its beautiful gardens, majestic bell tower and impressive Amphitheatre Square. Don't miss a walk along the tree-lined walls of its perimeter. Dinner is free at one of the many restaurants in the city.

Day 2
Train from Lucca to Altopascio and Stage to San Miniato. Leaving Altopascio you will walk along a beautiful stretch of the original paved Via Francigena, surrounded by woods. Let yourself be enchanted by the wild land of Cerbaie and enjoy a panoramic view of the old village of Fucecchio from the top of the old park with its ancient medieval tower. After crossing the Arno River, you will walk along its banks towards San Miniato. The Seminary that gives its name to the main square will amaze you with its unique façade: enjoy it illuminated, perhaps after eating risotto dusted with the typical white truffle, the pride of the area.

Day 3
Stop from San Miniato Alto to Gambassi Terme. From San Miniato, a paved road takes you to a spectacular route that passes through the typical countryside of the Val d'Elsa. Following Sigeric's diary, two "Submansiones" meet: Pieve di Coiano and Pieve a Chianni, then you will arrive at your accommodation.

Day 4
Stage from Gambassi to San Gimignano. Today you can enjoy the wonderful surroundings of the Via Francigena. Before climbing to the characteristic villages of Collemuccioli and Pieve di Cellole, a short stop for a visit to the Sanctuary of Pancole. If you arrive early, take some time to visit the famous town of San Gimignano and enjoy its charming medieval atmosphere. Dinner is free at one of the many restaurants in the city.

Day 5
Stage from San Gimignano to Gracciano or Colle di Val d'Elsa. Today you walk along a splendid path of the Via Francigena. Going up and down the Tuscan hills, crossing vineyards, olive groves, fields and woods, you finally reach your accommodation in Colle di Val d'Elsa or Gracciano. Along the way, you can take a detour to discover the fascinating 11th-century Abbey of Santa Maria a Conero.

Day 6
Stop from Colle or Gracciano to Monteriggioni. From Gracciano, cross Pieve a Elsa and meet the ancient Etruscan Baths of Caldane. After reaching Strove and its beautiful Romanesque church, continue walking along the unique complex of Abbadia a Isola until you reach the medieval town of Monteriggioni, surrounded by its distinctive crown of towers.

Day 7
Stop from Monteriggioni to Siena. Starting from Monteriggioni, you walk on dirt roads along the Montagnola Senese, the main hilly area of the area. You pass in front of the ancient medieval village of Cerbaia which currently seems abandoned. On the other side of the forest you reach the Castle of "Chiocciola" and go up to Poggio di Riciano. You will descend the old Pian del Lago river and at the end of the Renai forest, enter the beautiful city of Siena through the Porta Camollia.
