From Piediluco lake will walk along ancient paths gto reach the Castle of Buonacquisto from which will proceed to the lignite mine at the feet of Monte Rotondo mountain. Return will be along the slope of the Posatore mountain to finally reach the site known as Osteria. This charming area is located at the border between Umbria and Lazio regions where marvellous views are immersed into wild nature. The dominant element of the landscape is the Piediluco lake, naturally originated as part of the large ancient Lacus Velinus, the large swamp once covering the entire plain of Rieti before the massive draining intervention of the hydraulic engineering ordered by Roman Consul M. Curio Dentato in 3rd century bc which originated the Marmore Waterfall. The area was inhabited since very ancient times by settlements of Umbrian populations. Ruins of building of various centuries are still hidden among the trees and bushes of the hills surrounding the lake, among which those of the imposing 14th century Fortress. The lignite mine onmcluded in the itinerary was abandoned over 50 years ago and is a very unusual and interesting to be visited.
