In addition, if for a muscle bike the basic maintenance consists in oiling and properly cleaning the chain, check the proper functioning of the brakes and tire pressure, in the case of the e-bike you must also take care of the engine and battery.
These are its most important components, and neglecting even one of them can compromise the proper functioning of the medium.

The battery
The electric bike battery is similar to that found in any cell phone or laptop, only much larger. To preserve it, it is necessary to carry out an accurate cleaning every time you face a muddy or sandy path, using the appropriate technical vaseline. When the bike is unused for long periods or needs to be transported for a trip, it is preferable to detach and store it at room temperature, maintaining at least 30% of its charge.
The battery consists of cells, each of which has about 1000 charging cycles, varying according to the quality of the cells. It's also equipped with a BMS, which is a battery management system, which controls the charge and output of the cells. In practice, when using the cells, the battery moves one at a time on the next ones in the series. So if you go out on your bike and use only the first 10 cells and charge you completely at the end of the race, only the first 10 cells of the battery will have been used. This means that the remaining cells are still untouched and none of the 1000 available charging cycles have been used.
The basic rule of maintenance of the electric bike, provides that to get the maximum from the battery you have to charge it after each exit, so as to keep as many cells as possible in new and unused conditions. This will ensure a long life.

The transmission
An e-bike is basically a fully mechanical bicycle, so it must be maintained like all the others. To ensure its proper functioning, it is necessary to oil and carefully clean sprockets and chain, avoiding dripping oil on the engine to avoid damaging it. A lubricated and clean transmission allows to function correctly and prevent rust and wear.
To clean the chain simply use an old toothbrush with hot water for all connections. Then, once dried with a cloth, use a special lubricant for the bike, using a dry rag or a clean paper towel, removing the excess.

The tires
Tyre pressure monitoring is the basis of correct battery consumption. More deflated wheels will in fact stress the engine more and will help to drain the battery sooner than necessary. Always check the wear status of the tires, which should replace approximately every 3000km, according to the conditions of the routes and the driving style.

The brakes
The brakes also, in an e- Bike are more stressed than a muscle bike, for this reason they must be monitored with care. The control can be done from the brake lever, making sure it has the right pressure. It is also necessary to monitor brake pads, in the case of hydraulic disc brakes.

The engine
Electric motors generally do not require much maintenance. You just need to take some care when cleaning and washing your bike. In fact, even if the engine is protected from rain, it is important to avoid direct jets of water in order not to compromise its operation. The cleaning must be carried out with a damp cloth and specific detergent.
