Gualdo Cattaneo is a perched castle on the slopes of Martani Mounts, between the streams Puglia and Attone. It's located between the Umbra Valley (the one that goes from Foligno to Spoleto) and the Tiberina Valley (the one outlined by the Umbrian stretch of the Tiber).

The year of birth of Gualdum Captaneorum is 975 by the hand of the German Count Edoardo Cattaneo.
Thanks to its strategic geographic position, the town had considerable importance over the centuries.
The cities of Foligno and Spoleto showed, from time to time, interested in its conquest and contended it several times.
